Proportions

The other day, as I wandered hither and thither doing all but that which was necessary, I spotted something strange; something special; something suspicious; and something that must at once be fixed all in one little unsuspecting seemingly undisruptive sphere. It just so happens that, as I was gazing at the book shelf I recently moved over that tomato stain, I spotted a globe. Yes, one of those fancy spinnable affairs with stars to indicate national capitals and colors to specify the climate in the particuar place.
As I gazed, I couldn't help but notice that it was WAY out of proportion. No, I am not refering to the fact that Greenland is equal to the size of the U.S., but that the whole THING was way out of proportion. I mean, the world is WAY bigger then that. For those who have also noticed this error, I feel for you.

You know, FultonGirl, once I noticed this at school, I asked my teacher, Mrs. Carlson, "Why is the globe so out of proportion?" and my teacher looked at me like I was stupid. I ask you, since when do teachers have the right to look at an innocent child as if their head were filled with jelly beans instead of brain cells? Finally, my teacher came out of her trance and replied to my question. "Well you see, LunaGirl. This is just a model. If anyone were to make a life sized globe, it wouldn't fit in our classroom. It wouldn't even fit in our town. Why, it wouldn't fit in our state, or even America!" I was amaized with the knowledge displayed in my teacher's explanation. She finished with, "If someone were to build a life sized globe... it wouldn't fit on EARTH!" I found this information very helpful, and I hope you do too, FultonCreek.
